Initially launched in April 2015, the Apple Watch series has become fan favourite over its four years. With the aim of working alongside its iPhone range of smartphones, Apple sought to support its function while allowing users greater freedom from directly engaging with its screen. The first-generation Apple Watch utilised the single-core S1 system-on-chip and came with 8GB storage, allowing users to store 2 GB of music and 75 MB of photos. Paired with an iPhone the watch allowed user navigation of all its content via the Apple Watch.
The built-in heart rate sensor came equipped with infrared and visible-light LEDs and photodiodes. The Apple Watch uses the device specific watchOS operating system. The latest variant of the popular accessory, the Apple Watch is scheduled for global public release on the 20th of September 2019.
With performance enhances and greater interactive features refined over the six series of development, the latest Apple Watch Series 5 comes packed with a number of all new features. Although the design remains largely the same, the latest Apple Watch comes with optional new materials such as aluminium, stainless steel, titanium and ceramic, making the Watch even more durable and resistant to damage.
Apple’s latest smartwatch also features a new always-on display, which is cleverly configured to minimise battery use and thereby maintain battery charge to the levels of models that lack the always-on feature. Rather than flicking the wrist to activate the screen, quite a downside to owning previous versions, the Apple Watch Series 5’s display is ready at a glance. The newly added compass also allows for better directional feedback between the iPhone and the Apple Watch, offering users a more accurate navigational experience when using map apps. Emergency features are also upgraded in this year’s Apple Watch, which allow for international emergency calling in 150 countries. The Cycle Tracking function also allows for women to keep a record of menstrual cycles and fertility windows.
We’re sure that the Apple Watch Series 5 will be a hit!
